Loved the article on the Manchester incident of 1867 and I totally agree that there should be a significant memorial to Sergeant Charles Brett. However I do not agree with your line of argument as to the amount of memorials to the Manchester Martyrs and the lack of those for Brett. 5 men were convicted for the 'murder' of Brett, 3 being executed, 1 Irish American Condon was reprieved due to his nationality and 1 at the behest of english journalists granted a pardon, an irishman called Thomas Maguire, a Royal Marine who was on leave at the time of the fatal affair. The same jury convicted all 5, same evidence, same witnesses and same verdict!!!.

I was initiated into LOL 184 in 1967. I am now a member of the Sons of Ulster Loyal Orange Lodge 135 here in Brisbane, Queensland Australia. I was at a Black meeting today where we were discussing Stan Lang.

Harpurhey True Blues used to parade with my lodge in Kilmarnock, sad to hear they no longer exist.

well done to manchester province on a brilliant parade through your town on the 17/09/2011i walked on the parade and it shown the people who stood and watched that the orange order is growing in strength and we will march through the towns in unity and as one for what we believe in god save the queen from a sister in bootle province
